On November 12, 2009, CBS will again be a sponsor for STREETLIGHTS “Celebration! 2009.”
On October 26, 2009, CBS will again be a sponsor for HOLA who is celebrating their 10th Anniversary. CBS served as a sponsor of the HOLA’s 9th Annual Awards Gala in September, 2008. HOLA (Hispanic Organization of Latin Actors) presents annual awards and recognizes programs highlighting Latino artists and individuals who have demonstrated exceptional success in their craft and advanced the evolution of the image of Latinos.
On October 13th-15th, 2009, CBS will participate at the NATIONAL CONGRESS OF AMERICAN INDIANS trade show in Palm Springs.
On October 7, 2009, CBS will host a second table read for “Heights Entertainment,” a New York City Latino Production Group. A first table reading was held September 2, 2009.
On October 3, 2009, CBS sponsored the 4th Annual JACKIE ROBINSON “Jazz on the Grass”. The Jackie Robinson Foundation (JRF) takes pride in its extraordinary 36-year history of providing financial support and mentorship to aspiring students of color. As part of their diverse fundraising efforts, JRF produces an annual JAZZ on the Grass benefit concert. CBS also sponsored last year’s 3rd Annual event in September, 2008.
On September 24, 2009, CBS was again a sponsor at the NHMC (National Hispanic Media Coalition) Impact Awards Luncheon celebrating 23 years of opening doors for Latinos in Media. Acclaimed CBS Journalist Laura Diaz served as the mistress of ceremonies for the luncheon. Accomplished veteran reporter, Dave Lopez received the award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism. Lopez has been with KCBS for 32 years.
On September 18, 2009, CBS Alma Awards recipients included, Year in Television – Drama Actor – Benjamin Bratt (“The Cleaner”) and Year in Television – Drama Actress – Lauren Vélez (“Dexter”).
On August 21, 2009, CBS participated at the 24th Annual Imagen Awards. CBS nominees included, “COLD CASE” for Best Primetime Television Program, Best Actor/ Television, Benjamin Bratt (“The Cleaner”) Best Supporting Actress/Television, Cote de Pablo (NCIS) and Eva La Rue (CSI: Miami) and Best Supporting Actor/Television Jimmy Smits (“Dexter”). CBS participated on several panels at the IMAGEN conference. CBS Vice President of Comedy Development, Edy Mendoza serves on the IMAGEN board of directors.
On August 4, 2009, CBS Studios International hosted a day of screenings in Seoul, South Korea. Over 100 representatives of Korean linear and non-linear media platforms viewed new CBS Studios pilots and received a surprise video greeting in Korean by THREE RIVERS star Daniel Henney. The localized event provided Korean clients with an opportunity to extend the full L.A. Screenings experience to additional executives, channel programmers and staff.
On July 16, 2009, CBS participated at the NAACP Spingarn Dinner where President Obama was the Keynote Speaker. SVP CBS Diversity, Josie Thomas is on the NAACP Centennial Task Force and a member of the Spingarn Committee.
On July 13 - 16, 2009, CBS participated at the NAACP Centennial Convention & Job Fair.
On July 12th -14th, 2009, CBS participated at the American Indian Expo in Agua Caliente (Palm Springs).
On July 3rd -7th, 2009, CBS participated at the 2009 National UNITY Conference. Conference Theme: “Diverse We Are, United We Stand, Together We Rise”
On June 15, 2009, CBS Corporation was the host of the Emma L. Bowen Foundation for Minority Interests in the Media's Annual Corporate Partner Day at Fordham University. The event provided CBS (a founding corporate partner of the Foundation) with the opportunity to showcase its long-standing involvement and commitment to the Emma Bowen organization which is marking its 20th anniversary this year.
In his keynote address to the 300 Emma Bowen Foundation interns, CBS President & CEO Leslie Moonves gave the students an overview of the Company's brands and its strategies for the future, re-affirming CBS’s commitment to ensuring that minorities are a big part of that future. Other CBS executives and talent making presentations included Tom Kane, President & CEO CBS Television Stations (a long-time member of the Emma Bowen Board of Directors); Josie Thomas, CBS SVP Diversity, Jo Ann Ross, President, Network Sales; Jennifer Suarez, SVP Workforce Development (also on the Emma Bowen Foundation Board of Directors), Maggie Rodriguez, Co-Anchor, THE EARLY SHOW; and Cindy Hsu, CBS 2 New York Anchor/Reporter. In addition, CBS participated in panel discussions on jobs at CBS and Josie Thomas served as Moderator of a panel. The Emma Bowen Foundation was founded in 1989 to prepare minority youth for careers in the media industry by having them work for companies like CBS during summers and school/college breaks throughout their college experience.
On June 15, 2009, CBS VP Diversity & Communications, Tiffany N. Smith-Anoa’i attended an exclusive NAACP Celebrates 100 Years Reception honoring Julian Bond and Benjamin Todd Jealous.
On June 4, 2009, CBS participated on the Women for Hire Panel - CBS Manager Diversity, Barbara Matos served as a panelist. Founded in 1999, Women For Hire offers signature career expos, inspiring speeches and seminars, a popular career-focused magazine and customized marketing programs. To meet the increasing demand from college seniors and new graduates who want to know the ins and outs of where the jobs are and how to get hired during a recession, Women For Hire is hosted a career boot camp in New York City. The two-day event drew recruiters, hiring managers and executives across a variety of industries to offer first-hand expertise and insights on today's job market and future career paths. More than 150 students and grads attended.
On May 21, 2009, CBS VP Diversity & Communications, Tiffany N. Smith-Anoa’i, served as a guest speaker at the 5th Annual OC/PRSA Diversity Conference.
On May 19, 2009, CBS served as a sponsor of the APAICS Gala (Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies).
On May 14, 2009, CBS served as a sponsor of the Howard University Breakfast to launch the Center for Excellence in Advertising (CEA) at Howard University. Josie Thomas, CBS Senior Vice President, Diversity, along with Barbara Matos, CBS Manager Diversity, John Bogusz, CBS Executive Vice President Sports Sales, Dean Kaplan, CBS Senior Vice President Sales and Tom Delaney, CBS Senior Vice President Director of Market Resources all attended the launch. CEA’s Executive Education Program is designed to be the preeminent professional development facility and experience for mid-senior level managers of color who wish to retain and or advance their careers within the advertising industry. “CBS and Howard University have a long history of partnership and we made it a priority to support this extremely important program,” said Thomas who is a member of the Board of Visitors of the John H. Johnson School of Communications at Howard University.
On April 27, 2009, CBS served as a sponsor of the East West Players Gala.
On April 17-19, 2009, CBS again participated in the NALIP (National Association of Latino Independent Producers) Conference as sponsors and conducted Actor workshops. From April, 2008 to the present, CBS hosts the New York Chapter Executive Board monthly meetings as well as various workshops for NALIP NY members at the CBS Headquarters.
On April 17, 2009, CBS attended the NJAMF (National Japanese American Memorial Foundation) Gala as a sponsor and award recipient.
On February 20, 2009, CBS was again a sponsor at the NHMC (National Hispanic Media Coalition) Impact Awards Gala. The annual fete celebrates outstanding Latino performances and also recognizes outstanding service and commitment to the Latino community.
On January 29, 2009, CBS served as a sponsor of the Howard University Annual Legacy Celebration.
On December 15, 2008, CBS served as a sponsor of the MANAA (Media Action Network For Asian Americans) Gala.
On November 11, 2008, CBS participated in the Strategic Sourcing Networking Event to provide minority-owned businesses with increased opportunity to meet key CBS purchasing decision makers. The Strategic Sourcing department recently brought together in New York vendors and executives from numerous divisions across the Company.
On November 6th, 2008, CBS participated and sponsored The American Indian Chamber of Commerce 13th Anniversary Annual Native American Heritage Luncheon. Invited guests included CBS West Coat employees of Native American descent: Hattie Kaufman (LA News Bureau), Steve King (Station Promotion) and Ray White (Legal). In addition, any candidate referrals that CBS Human Resources receive are interviewed and considered for potential employment opportunities.
CBS attended the City of Los Angeles official celebration of American Indian Heritage at City Hall and was invited to a private reception with Mayor Antonio Villaragosa.
Josie Thomas continues to serve as the CBS representative to the New York City Mayor’s Task Force on Diversity in Film, Television and Commercial Production.
CBS DIVERSITY CELEBRATES HERITAGE MONTH
CBS Cares produced a new series of PSAs with primetime talent sharing personal stories of what Hispanic/ American Indian/African American/Asian-American History Month means to them.

CBS SUPPORTS FILM FESTIVALS
LA SKINS FILM FESTIVAL - CBS sponsored the 2nd Annual Festival and will again sponsor this year’s festival (3rd Annual) November 20th, 21st and 22nd. The Los Angeles SKINS FEST celebrates Native American filmmakers in the city of Los Angeles and throughout the country. The L. A. SKINS FEST is proudly meeting its goal of merging the large studio system of Hollywood with the largest urban American Indian community in the United States. The free three-day film festival celebrates Native American cinema and provides access to new movies, entertainment and cultural events and is part of the city’s celebration of Native American Heritage month every November
AMERICAN INDIAN FILM FESTIVAL - CBS sponsored the 33rd Annual festival last November and will again sponsor this year’s 34th Annual Festival, November 6th through 14th. The film festival and awards show are the cornerstone of what the American Indian Film Institute does — provide opportunity and a national venue for emerging and established filmmakers, entertainers and performing artists to convene, renew their artistic spirit and share their gifts.
CBS was a sponsor and participant at the LOS ANGELES LATINO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL in September, 2008. The mission of the LOS ANGELES LATINO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL is to showcase and nurture existing and emerging creative Latino talent while serving as a springboard and catalyst for the promotion of Latin films and filmmakers.
CBS was a sponsor of the VISUAL COMMUNICATIONS Asian Pacific Film Festival in May 2008 and sponsored the Film Festival again in 2009. The mission of VISUAL COMMUNICATIONS is to promote intercultural understanding through the creation, presentation, preservation and support of media works by and about Asian Pacific Americans. Visual Communications was created with the understanding that media and the arts are important vehicles to organize and empower communities, build connections between generations, challenge perspectives, and create an environment for critical thinking, necessary to build a more just and humane society. The film festival is the largest of its kind of the West Coast.
